The New Generation of Coffee Producers

We're incredibly proud of the coffee producers we work with. When Fraser, who heads up our Roasting Dept, isn't visiting them at origin (lucky guy), he keeps in touch with our coffee partners over the internet. When Augusto Ferreira Borges of Fazenda Capadócia got in touch with Fraser about his latest endeavour, we were all super stoked and were excited to share it with you.

Augusto is a fifth-generation coffee farmer from the Mantiqera de Minas region of Brazil. We’ve been working with Augusto for the past six years, and he’s a real legend, who produces some of the region’s best coffee. His Brazil Fazenda Capadócia is a crowd favourite around here and his coffees are also a key component of our Brazil Blend.

Augusto is real forward thinker, with a steady desire to constantly improve his coffee year on year. This is evident through Augusto’s success at competitions such as the Cup of Excellence, experimenting with new processing techniques and support of local initiatives throughout his community.

One of Augusto’s recent projects has been to convert his farm and newly commissioned dry mill to solar power. He’s installed an array of panels on the farm to harness the abundant sunshine. The motivation for Augusto to embark on this project was born out of his drive to improve the coffee that he produces as well as being able to leave a better future for generations of the Borges family to farm the slopes of the Mantiquera.

While this was Augusto's own initiative, and we're not trying to claim any of the kudos, it's worth mentioning, that your support of these coffees, make such projects possible. Thumbs up all round.
