Last month, we made our way to Kingscliff Beach, NSW, to be the official coffee partner of Seas The Day, the world’s largest female-participation surf festival, for the second year in a row. Held over two days, the event brought together a record-breaking crowd of over 15,000 people, all there to cheer on some of the best in the biz.
Arlo and Sam hit the road from our Brisbane roastery with the Coffee Supreme van packed to the brim. While I flew out of a cold Melbourne, chasing some sunshine (even if it did rain on day one). A weekend up north was a warm welcome in every sense.
We set up shop in the heart of the Seas the Day hub, firing up the machine early each morning. From competitors and judges to other stallholders, we had a steady stream of people stop by for a cup of Supreme. Safe to say, we kept everyone (including ourselves) well-caffeinated.
While we were busy slinging coffees, we managed to catch snippets of the incredible guest speakers over at the Nutra Organics Stage just opposite us — from Women Shaping the Surf Industry to Surfers for Climate — there was something for everyone. Just around the corner, the wellness hub offered up daily yoga, ice bath workshops, and plenty of moments to slow down and reset.
To add to the fun, we brought along the Coffee Supreme prize wheel, an absolute hit, to say the least. With a bunch of Supreme goodies up for grabs, it was the branded surf wax comb that had people crossing their fingers (and toes) in the hope of winning.
One of the best things about Seas The Day is the range of women it brings together — from Under 12s to the Open Women’s Para Division, it’s a true celebration of women’s surfing in all its forms. Seeing athletes of all ages and abilities come together, united by their love for the same thing, is something special to be a part of. Surfing legends like Layne Beachley and Chelsea Hedges even jumped in to compete, while Stephanie Gilmore stopped by to show her support.
We were proud to sponsor the Open Women’s Longboard Division, taken out by The Capybaras, with all place-getters leaving with a Coffee Supreme prize pack in hand.
And it wasn’t just the surfers turning heads in the water. We were lucky enough to spot a bunch of humpback whales breaching out in the distance and even caught a few dolphins riding the waves (something you don't get in Abbotsford).
All in all, Seas The Day was an absolute blast. We were stoked to have shown up, serve coffee, and support an event that champions women in surfing and fosters such an epic sense of community.
A big thanks to Surfing Australia for having us and giving us the opportunity. Until next year.
