Emu Parade is a not-for-profit where Roly hands out top-notch coffee in exchange for picking up rubbish. Bribery? Technically. But the good kind.
MEET ROLY
Founded by Roland — Roly to most — Emu Parade is a not-for-profit turning beach cleanups into community rituals. The deal? You pick up some rubbish, he makes you a top-notch coffee. Call it professional bribery, but the good kind.
Roly brews from Trish, a retired fire engine turned solar-charged, waste-oil-fuelled coffee van. He collects used deep fryer oil from local restaurants, filters it in his garage, and runs it through custom mods to keep Trish moving. She runs on chips, basically.
This is hospitality reimagined. Powered by people, purpose, and waste streams that would otherwise be thrown out. We’re proud to back Emu Parade as a major sponsor. You’ll find Trish kitted out with two La Marzocco GS3s and enough firepower to fuel hundreds of cups a day.
With 14 years of barista know-how under his belt, Roly serves cafe-quality brews without a single disposable in sight. Bring your own cup (or borrow a Coffee Supreme ceramic) and join the parade.
Roly and his good pal Sam have also just opened their own spot, The Nest, slinging coffees Monday to Saturday, while Trish parks up between Sunday clean-ups. They’re championing reusables with a $1 discount for BYO cups, and plating up an all-vego menu that’s small but mighty: turbo toast, jaffles, and a pastry cabinet stacked with treats.
You'll find them serving our Supreme Blend at 3/380 Pittwater Road, North Manly.
GET INVOLVED
Want to get involved? Roly and Trish are all for it. Check their calendar for upcoming cleanup locations.
What’s provided: buckets, grabbers, bins, sanitation supplies, sunscreen — and of course free coffee, chai, and hot chocolate.
What to bring: your favourite cup, plus clothing and footwear that suits the weather and terrain.
Cleanups are weather-dependent and may shift with short notice. We recommend wearing shoes and covering up, but ultimately, use your best judgment.
