ABOUT THIS COFFEE
Northern Peru, especially Cajamarca, has a reputation for quality coffee. Chinchiquilla is a clear case in point.
Roasted for espresso, this coffee is bright and clean, with plum, red cherry and green apple up front, carried by a crisp, juicy acidity. Light-bodied and smooth, it finishes with sweet toffee and a subtle cashew-like nuttiness.
Sitting pretty within the Forests of Chaupe, Cunía and Chinchiquilla, this coffee comes from a protected cloud forest corridor where coffee grows alongside some seriously lush biodiversity. Steady rainfall and shifting microclimates do their thing here, shaping coffees that feel clear, expressive and just a little complex.
The area was established as a conservation zone in 2019, around the same time Caravela started working more closely with producers on the ground. What began with a small group has grown to around 30 farmers, all focused on doing things well and keeping quality front of mind.
Good people, good conditions, very good coffee.
