Every great cup of coffee starts long before it reaches the barista’s hands. It’s built, tested, and fine-tuned by the people working behind the scenes — those who keep the machines running, the shots dialed, and the details just right. With the launch of the Coffee Supreme x La Marzocco Workwear Collection, we’re celebrating the people who make it happen

This series takes us behind the machine, into the workshops and cafes, to hear from members of our community who are wearing the new workwear and putting it to the test in their daily grind. First up, we chat with Nick, a bench tester at La Marzocco Australia. As the last person to inspect and sign off on every machine before it reaches a cafe, Nick knows firsthand the importance of quality, durability, and attention to detail — both in his work and what he wears to do it.

Q. Can you introduce yourself and tell us about your role at La Marzocco?
A. Hey, I’m Nick, a bench tester at La Marzocco Australia. Our machines are hand-built in Italy and shipped over by air or sea. My job is to inspect and test each one, making sure it meets the high standards you’d expect from La Marzocco before it reaches its new home.

Q. What has your experience been like working with Coffee Supreme?
A. Always great. The team knows their stuff, they’re easy to work with, and they make you feel welcome every time you drop by.

Q. Why do partnerships like this matter in the coffee industry?
A. They help businesses grow and support each other over time. At the end of the day, it’s all about making sure customers get the best experience possible — whether that’s through equipment, coffee, or service.

Q. How does the new workwear support you in your role?
A. It’s light, durable, and built to last, which is exactly what you want when you’re working with machines all day. Plus, it feels good to wear, which makes a difference when you’re on the job.

Q. Why is quality and attention to detail so important in what you do?
A. Because when a machine travels across the world, even the smallest issue can go unnoticed. I have to use all my senses when testing — listening for the refill, feeling for a loose cable — because I’m the last person to check the machine before it’s installed. Everything has to be spot-on from the first espresso to the last.

Q. What stands out to you about the new workwear?
A. The look and feel of it. The colourway is a personal favourite, and it just feels like something I’d actually want to wear. Anything else you’d like to share? Yeah, just a big thanks to Coffee Supreme and La Marzocco for hooking me up with some great gear. I’ll definitely be showing it off to my brother when I head over to New York.
